Q&A with Madison Reidy, A Wedding Planner with McKenzie Phillips Events

You know the saying, “Teamwork makes the dream work”? Well, in my world, truer words have ever been spoken. While I didn’t dream of building a team when I was first starting out in the wedding planning industry, I realized that to open up more time to focus on my family while building this business of mine, I needed to ask for help.

And while I have a tribe of awesome, talented, dedicated ladies that I’m beyond grateful for and each deserves a special shout out, today, I’m shining the spotlight on one in particular - Madison Reidy.

She’s been with me from the start, has years of experience in the industry, and is an absolute rockstar and asset, helping me make our couples’ wedding days everything they’ve dreamed of and more. For that reason, I promoted her from the role of event assistant to planner on my MPE team!

I recently sat down with Madison to ask her all the questions to help you get to know her better (and better understand the reasons why I adore her!). See what she had to say below, and send her some love for all the amazing work she does for MPE couples!

How did your love of wedding planning begin?

My love of planning began kind of randomly when I started helping McKenzie a couple of weekends a month with weddings just to make some extra money. I was introduced to the event planning world, and now I love it!

What’s your planning superpower?

I’m very flexible. I’m willing to go out of my way to truly make your day exactly what you want it to be and see it through to the very end.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw a lot of inspiration from Pinterest. My boards are always filled with possible wedding ideas, and it’s nice to see different styles in a platform that’s easy to use and compare to. I also draw a lot of inspiration from things I see in interior design. So, you could say I use Joanna Gaines as a creative muse to some degree.

Why do you feel it's important for couples to hire a wedding planner?

It’s important for couples to hire a wedding planner so they can ensure their day will run as smoothly as possible. If and when problems arise, it is very comforting to know that you have someone in your corner, with your wedding goals in mind.

If you could give one piece of advice to couples planning a Kansas City wedding, what would it be?

My best advice would be to pick a great DJ or band! They really can make or break your reception.

How big a part do your couples play in the creative process – or are they generally happy for you to run the show?

I would say the couples I work with are usually very vocal about the creative process but are very willing to listen to suggestions. And once it comes to the day-of, they’re willing to let our team do what we need to do to make sure their day runs smoothly.

What wedding trend do you think will never go out of style?

I don’t think the greenery trend will ever go out of style. Calligraphy paired with greenery offers a slightly simplistic look, which is both fresh and classy.

Can you tell us about your most favorite wedding moment or memory?

My most memorable moments of any wedding happen during the behind-the-scenes meetings I have with brides. It’s so satisfying and fun to be able to build a team of vendors and make a dream become a reality.

What is the BEST part of your job?

I’m able to meet a lot of different people and experience something new with each wedding. It keeps things interesting!

What song changes your mood instantly?

As far as songs that could be played at a wedding, I love the song “Speechless” by Dan + Shay. It’s such a sweet song and so cute to witness couples come together when it plays.

Your drink of choice to give you the energy kick you need to work your planning magic?

I can’t start the day without a coffee or a BANG energy drink!

What quote or mantra do you live by?

“Let all that you do be done in love.”

I can’t say it enough - Madison’s a tremendous help to the MPE team! And it’s clear our past clients adore her, too. Here’s what one bride had to say:

“Madison was our day-of coordinator, and she was amazing. She made everything go by with a breeze, she listened to my vision and made it come to life! Not once did I feel stressed and the day was one I will always remember! Thank you so much for all your hard work!!!” - Dajana J.
