Maree and Corey’s Ethereal Pale Blue Spring Wedding

Maree and Corey’s love story began at Benedictine College where, after taking an English class together, they have been inseparable ever since. And after six years together, Corey got down on one knee, which brings us to their springtime wedding celebrating their forever as Mr. & Mrs.

It was all things heavenly and romantic with pale blue accent colors, perfectly complementing the weather on their big day where not a cloud was in sight. From bundt cake centerpieces to delicate floralscapes scattered throughout the reception space, yummy BBQ, and a handshake at the altar between the bride and groom, there’s no doubt the stunning pair carried out their romantic vision and provided an epic day for those in attendance!

Today, Maree shares a recap of what made her and Corey’s special day one they’ll never forget while being surrounded by their closest family and friends. These dreamy moments were captured by the incredibly talented Marissa Cribbs Photography. How amazing are these detailed shots?

How did he pop the question? Tell us your engagement story. I knew Corey was in the process of getting an engagement ring, but he showed no signs of asking me yet. On March 26, 2016, I was helping Corey and his friends move into their new apartment. While I was helping put clothes away in Corey's room, I came across THE RING in a duffle bag. Should I tell him I found it? Should I look at the ring? I didn't know what to do, so I put the box back where I found it (I did NOT look) and kept my mouth shut.

A little later during the move, I heard the front door open and in ran Jack Jack, our dog. Attached to his collar was a note and, because I had found the ring, I knew what was coming. in front of our closest friend,. I read a note that quoted a song "I think this is how love goes, check yes or no," and turned around to Corey down on one knee. Of course I said yes (and checked yes on the note)!

Describe your wedding vibe in one sentence: Romantic garden vibe.

What was your wedding/event hashtag? #goinggoinggaunt #coreysgettingmareed

How many friends, family members, and loved ones attended your wedding? 150

Where did you allocate the most funds? The venue as well as the food and drinks.

Where did you allocate the least funds? The cake and flowers. I had simple flowers and a cake at a great price!

Share a few things that helped you along the way with planning a wedding. Probably word of mouth. I got a lot of ideas—like having cakes as centerpieces—from a friend who saw that at another wedding. It also helped to talk to my friends who recently got married. They had a lot of good tips, and helped keep me in check and not get too worried over aspects that wouldn't even get noticed.

Tell us about some of the songs you used throughout your wedding and why you chose them. Our first dance song was “H.O.L.Y.” by Florida Georgia Line. Corey heard it on the radio and asked me to listen to it as an option for our first dance song. I cried when I heard it and knew it was perfect.

Did you have something borrowed, something blue, something old, and something new? If so, do tell! Yes! My something borrowed was a ring that belonged to Corey's younger sister who passed away at a young age. His mom wears it everyday and let me and her other daughter-in-law wear it on our wedding days. My something blue was my shoes. When I was younger, I saw my cousin wear blue shoes at her wedding and i always knew that I would do that as well. My something old was my grandma’s locket necklace. She passed away about five years ago and the locket is one of my most special possessions. Lastly, my something new was my hairpiece from Etsy.

Your best practical advice to a soon-to-be bride. It's ok to know what you want and to have that on your special day. But, don't be afraid to go simple! It will still be beautiful, and you may just save yourself some stress and money!

What’s next for you as a couple? What memories are you looking forward to making together? We chose not to live together before we were married, so it’s been fun to have these new little movements in everyday life together. Just simple things like knowing we get to come home together at the end of the work day. He moved into my place after the wedding, so we're looking forward to moving into "our place" very shortly!

Let us know one thing that WOWed you while working with McKenzie Phillips. I didn't have to worry about a thing at the reception! It was a great feeling to know that I could party and enjoy myself while gifts, decorations, and food were being organized and packed up for me. And when plans changed, McKenzie took care of it!
